Hi everyone. My father wants to recreate the fortran stuff he coded on an ICL system in the late 70's. We have the source in ascii. We do a g77 'filename' and we get an error. The files read fine too in the text editor. /usr/i486-linux/bin/ld:test: File format not recognised ...etc etc. info gives us 500 plus pages to read, none of which say 'how to compile a fortran program' I know this is not SuSE but just maybe there is someone out there who could help. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I recently downloaded the fortran source code for OrbFit2.0, which is used to compute near earth object orbits and predict earth orbit crossings. The first thing I did was to install the g77 compiler and assoicated libs. If you are running SuSE then g77 is just a YaST away, otherwise I would suggest locating the rpms on the internet and trying to install them. Hi everyone and especially to Juergen and Jerry. Thanks for your patience once again. Where in the documentation does it say that Fortran file have to have a .f at the end? Please don't answer. It is embarrassing enough to have asked! Advice: Fortran files have to have the extention '.f'. Otherwise g77 throws a fit. Best wishes from Steve at FeF, Spain. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

so my PM answer wasn't perfectly correct. Seems I've been born knowing, or somebody told me. (more likely the latter. I just *use* *.f as the c-community uses *.c and I don't think a second about that...) I didn't expect this to be the source for all trouble... Juergen
