[oS-EN] Questions on Gnome classic
Hi, I'm trying gnome classic - what I use normally is XFCE, so the normal gnome is way too different for my taste. The classic seems more comfortable to me. I expected after a reboot to get the same desktop, but no. I had to restart the terminal and gkrellm. When closing, I did not see a tick or something to save the session. Is it somewhere else? When I press [Alt][F2] to type a command, it doesn't autocomplete (XFCE does). Is it a setting somewhere? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from Elesar, using openSUSE Leap 15.4)

There are two methods;
1. Set up in the Display Manager
or,
2. by using update-altedrnatives
# update-alternatives --config default-xsession.desktop
For example, in my case, here is what I did;
There are 4 choices for the alternative default-xsession.desktop (providing /usr/share/xsessions/default.desktop).
Selection Path Priority Status ------------------------------------------------------------ 0 /usr/share/xsessions/gnome.desktop 25 auto mode * 1 /usr/share/xsessions/enlightenment.desktop 20 manual mode 2 /usr/share/xsessions/gnome.desktop 25 manual mode 3 /usr/share/xsessions/icewm-session.desktop 15 manual mode 4 /usr/share/xsessions/plasma5.desktop 25 manual mode
Press <enter> to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number:
I think we are getting lost in translation :-) I'm not talking of choosing gnome, plasma, xfce for my session. I'm talking that, when using gnome, I have a bunch of applications opened. Then I exit. Later, I login again, and I want that bunch of applications opened in my desktop. That is saving the session. The layout of applications and things inside gnome classic. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from Elesar, using openSUSE Leap 15.4)

Sorry.
What you say you can usually do is set up a gnome session?
No. I ask, how do I save the gnome session? I can save the xfce session, so how do I do it with gnome-classic? - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. You've not installed gnome shell extensions, have you? Your issue will be solved by them.
I have installed the 3 gnome patterns in YaST. Laicolasse:~ # rpm -qa | grep -i gnome-shell-extension gnome-shell-extensions-common-lang-41.2-150400.2.7.noarch gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-20.10.0-150400.4.5.1.noarch gnome-shell-extensions-common-41.2-150400.2.7.noarch Laicolasse:~ # - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
