[SLE] Slow downloadss
I have my new SuSE 6.3 running and I love it! Two minor problems, though. (1) Wvdial doesn't recognize my modem as being installed, and (2) kppp works but the transfer speeds are so s-l-o-w. I have a 56K modem that connects at 115200 (according to kppp) but trransfer speeds are less than 100 b/s in KDE and less than 1 kb/s. Do I has something configured wrong? I had a similar problem once, my mouse and modem were using the same IRQ. If you have jumpers on your modem a relatively easy way out is to assign it another IRQ by changing the jumper. Look in /proc/interrupts, any number not listed should be free for your modem. Then you can use the setserial command to change the IRQ for whichever port your modem is on (ttySx). And then check the man page for setserial to see how to automate the process during the boot process. Let us know if this isn't the problem.
