[opensuse] Replace hard drive, but still got errors, is this hd broken too ?
Friend, I got another (maybe similar) problem, I have replace my hard drive with another one, it's up and running now. But when I check the /var/log/messages, I got some errors like this. Is it means that this one is also broken too ? :( Feb 11 17:33:06 linux-dlj5 crontab[4706]: (root) BEGIN EDIT (root) Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3.00: cmd c8/00:18:21:bc:47/00:00:00:00:00/e1 tag 0 dma 12288 in Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: res 40/00:00:01:4f:c2/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3.00: status: { DRDY } Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3: soft resetting link Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3.00: configured for UDMA/100 Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3: EH complete Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] 78165360 512-byte hardware sectors: (40.0GB/37.2GiB) Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Mode Sense: 00 3a 00 00 Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA Feb 11 17:33:36 linux-dlj5 login[9058]: pam_lastlog(login:session): file /var/log/lastlog is locked/write Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3.00: cmd ca/00:18:a9:c9:11/00:00:00:00:00/e1 tag 0 dma 12288 out Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: res 40/00:00:01:4f:c2/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3.00: status: { DRDY } Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3: soft resetting link Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3.00: configured for UDMA/100 Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: ata3: EH complete Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] 78165360 512-byte hardware sectors: (40.0GB/37.2GiB) Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Mode Sense: 00 3a 00 00 Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 smartd[8955]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], 11 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 smartd[8955]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], 11 Offline uncorrectable sectors Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 smartd[8955]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], SMART Prefailure Attribute: 3 Spin_Up_Time changed from 70 to 78 Feb 11 17:34:17 linux-dlj5 smartd[8955]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 36 to 35 Feb 11 17:34:22 linux-dlj5 crontab[4706]: (root) REPLACE (root) Feb 11 17:34:22 linux-dlj5 crontab[4706]: (root) END EDIT (root) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Just out of curiosity, have you change the drive cable? If a drive change didn't help, that might. Could also be a marginal power supply. Sata is far pickier about power than ide (pata) ever dreamed of being. And have you seen: http://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Libata_error_messages I did try to decode your errors, but maybe they can tell you something.
