Wonder if anyone has had opportunity to install the new 8.2 on the newer Compaq line of laptops using ATI video graphics? Any issues crop up? Thanks so much! K. I have been using SuSE 8.1, and now 8.2 on my Compaq Presario 2110US. It has an ATI Radeon Mobility U1. As of yet, I'm still forced to use the vesa drivers and software rendering for 3d. The vesa drivers work fine for basically anything you want to do, except you can't use the graphics card's 3d accel. -- --------------------------------------------------- So I went by 'cause I had the time. Thanks Michael, I tried Mandrake 9.1 with little success, however the main trble there was the boot-up script hung attempting to initialize a non-existent PCMCIA module in my new 2105CA (sounds very similiar to yours). Video never got tested as I was not able to start X. Video failed to configure though during the install I noted. For the PCMCIA, I've noticed that I had to add "pci=biosirq". Also specify in /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia to use the external drivers, not the kernel ones, and edit the PCMCIA_PCIC_OPTS to ="irq_list=11". I've never had to do this with any linux system on my older (toshiba) laptop, but with this Compaq, it's been more like the laptop's playing "hard to get!" Could it be that MS is playing hardball with the sellers to make it as hard as possible to use all of the features of pc's and laptops? Provide NO drivers for linux or lose MS certification? I also own a Compaq 1720US laptop and cannot get the APM features to work (shutoff at shutdown for one). I don't feel that I should have to roll my own kernel to get this to work. Or am I just missing something? Just my 2 cents. Ken Schneider
