[opensuse] Correct permissions (or "what happened to") /var/spool/samba?
Hi listmates. I recently started having problems printing via my laptop, which prints by default to a printer shared via a samba share on my desktop. For some reason, it was unable to create a print job. I did some digging via the cups web config page and couldn't find any clues, nor could I via the Yast2 Printer Config tool. Then, as a last resort, I checked my samba config. The printer share was configured to point at /var/spool/samba, but when I went to /var/spool there was no /var/spool/samba. Now, something must have changed somewhere between 11.0 and 11.2 because this used to work. Recreating /var/spool/samba corrected the problem and my (Windows XP) laptop now prints happily again. The question is, though (apart from how /var/spool/samba went awol in the first place), what are the correct ownership, group and permissions for /var/spool/samba? Would someone with a similar setup please check (ls -l /var/spool) and let me know? There is no chnage to the printers share since quite some time (ten years?). By default we point the path to /var/tmp and ensure privacy via the 0600 create mask. Please check your /etc/samba/smb.conf In the case you upgraded from an older openSUSE release it's very likely you have a file named /etc/samba/smb.conf.rpmnew which you might use as a reference. If that's not the case use /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/examples/smb.conf.SUSE from the samba-doc package. Or this partial quote: [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/tmp printable = Yes create mask = 0600 browseable = No Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany
