When I installed SUSE 9.1 (which I haven't upgraded yet) I also installed Netscape 7.1 as my network browser ans mailer. It'ok .. The only feature that I cannot get to work is to store bookmarks. I can bookmark the currently shown page... But when I restart Netscape after exiting it ... well ... all the bookmarks are gone ! Thsi did not happen with Netscape 6.0 ... I've also installed the last StarOffice version that is actually the same as the current OpenOffice tool coming with SuSE 9.1 I'm using StarOffice for writing a paper. Unluckily everyone else in the team I belong to uses Windows. Therefore I've been requested a MS-WORD compatible paper for revision on part of other people. Does anyone know whether there is an output file format supported by StarOffice and/or OpenOffice that is readable by MS-Word ? Thank you in advance for your help. MEM

Hi Maura,

I have a similar problem. One solution is to generate a pdf file (from OpenOffice or LaTex) and ask people for revisions using pdf annotations (if the have the full Adobe Acrobat, not just the reader). This is not perfect but it allows you to work in your favorite word processing software (as long as you can generate pdfs). OpenOffice can save documents in the Word format but the results are not always perfect, especially if there is some more complicated formatting (especially equations). I have generated one paper by exchanging versions with co-authors this way but eventually I had to have a windows machine for the final edit. You can try saving your paper as a word documents and see the results. To do this do "Save As" and select the file-format from the dropdown list in the save dialog. If the journal you are submitting to accepts LaTex I would go with LaTex and the pdf annotations since equations in word are horrible (both for editing and the way they are typeset). Good luck, Brana

I would highly recommend for you to update to firefox 1.0 web browser. You can download it at ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/9.1-i386/RPMS.mozilla Download the MozillaFirefox-1.0-0.1.i586.rpm and install it using the command (as root) rpm -Uvh MozillaFirefox-1.0-0.1.i586.rpm And then start firefox.

Yes, OpenOffice and StarOffice can save the fiile as a MS-Word file. Click on File -> Save As and then choose Microsoft Word in the Filter.
Thank you in advance for your help. MEM

OpenOffice and Star Office can save files in Word compatible .DOC files. You can even make it the default format.
