"APC" is a popular brand of UPS. I have one and am quite happy with it. The apcupsd program is very good and easy to configure. The USB support is especially nice. I recommend you get the latest version from http://www.apc.com instead of from the SuSE CD/DVD since the latest has some significant fixes.
I browsed the APC site for ten minutes and it was like pulling teeth to find software for Linux. At home tonight I'll look at the one that I did find, to see if it's
actually apcupsd or something else.
The site had fields for customer login (where you sign up for the opportunity to receive endless junk mail -- both dead trees and e-mail) but I never saw a site-search box which would be the preferred way to get directly to what I needed. Oh, wait... that would bypass all their opportunities to sell me more stuff... what was I thinking?
I would not bother with the APCs web site. Just go to http://www2.apcupsd.com/ and it has all the latest stuff. Dmitry [...]
