I'm trying to execute a script under cron - for test purposes I set up a
little scriptlet first to do nothing more than write a file with the
current time in it's name. The scriptlet runs manually (produces the file
in my home fine) but does not appear to run under cron. I set the run time
to be every minute for ease of tracing, editing with kcrontab. Cron sees
the changes - /var/log/messages shows cron reloading - but I can't for the
life of me see why the test script fails to run.
Help!!
TIA,
paul.

I haven't used cron on linux, but on AIX cron runs in its own environment
and requires full pathnames to all executables. i.e.
/usr/bin/echo "data" > /usr/local/temp/file.name
instead of
echo "data" > file.name

A word or two from the 'wise': man logger. This provides access to the syslog facility at the shell level. 'tis a wonderful thing. Lets you move around and redirect diagnostic output without ever changing your programs. Confirm the settings with 'crontab -l' -- Bernd Felsche - Innovative Reckoning Perth, Western Australia -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
