Hy people, Im triying to install vmware tools that come with esx server 2.5, and there is no way i get them working, when it tries to compile the modules like vmxnet i get compilation errors in all of them. I have installed the kernel sources to get the headers, and all the rest of developers rpm needed gcc,bin-utils, etc. Has anyone made them work??? Thnx ALl.

In the VM SLES9 installation, you need to have the C compiler and kernel source installed. When you have that, go to /usr/src/linux and issue the 'make cloneconfig && make modules_prepare' command. Then you should be able compile the VMware tools. If not, go to the VMware support forums. -- Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting

Hi Ali, did you do the following on your guest SLES9 before trying to build the tools? cd /usr/src/linux make oldconfig make prepare # adepts the config from the running kernel and prepares the kernel for build, but # does not compile the kernel. Then try it again, hope that helps, Markus

/etc/modprobe.conf (on SLES9: modprobe.conf.local) would be the place since kernel 2.6, but keep in mind that a lot modules are loaded by hotplug automatically. Markus
