[opensuse] Dolphin: No Access to DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER
Hello Friends, i've an Error. If i start an selfmade DVD with 3 Videos, the Applet knows th Media. The Applet gives me 2 alternatives. I klicked on "load with Dolphin". And the Dolphin starts, and gives me an red line on the bottom. He says: "No Access to DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER". Then i goes to konsole /media. The konsole says: "No autorization." -- Sincereley yours Sascha Manns openSUSE Marketing Team openSUSE Build Service openSUSE Features Screening Team Web: http://saschamanns.gulli.to Project-Blog: http://lizards.opensuse.org/author/saigkill Private-Blog: http://saschasbacktrace.blogspot.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I suppose, that's because you don't have permission to access the disk. Do you belong to 'disk' group ? By default, you might not belong to 'disk' group. # ls -l /dev/dvd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Apr 8 21:52 /dev/dvd -> sr0 # ls -l /dev/dvdrw lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Apr 8 21:52 /dev/dvdrw -> sr0 # ls -l /dev/sr0 brw-rw----+ 1 root disk 11, 0 Apr 8 21:52 /dev/sr0 As you can see, /dev/dvd and /dev/dvdrw are symbolic link to /dev/sr0 and in order to access /dev/sr0, you need to be root or 'disk' group user. So add your user to 'disk' group by: YaST -> Security and Users -> User and Group Management -> select your user in 'User' tab and "Edit" -> open 'Details' tab and check "disk" group in 'Additional Groups' box. # Of cource you can add your user to 'disk' group # by directly editing /etc/group. No, please don't. It will only add the risk of total destruction, if you ever accidentally write directly to things like your root partition (the disk group has write permissions to all devices) If this indeed is the problem, simply run an online update, since the problem of missing permissions on the dvd device was fixed there You don't need to be root, hal/udev should add an ACL entry, which it does with the fixes in online update Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for your clarification, Dominique. After my last post, I found related bugzilla entry. Bugzilla # 408252 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=408252 The workaround that I mentioned in last post - adding user to disk group - - was *my* workaround before hal was fixed. So I didin't realize that there was a bug in hal and then it was fixed.
