Hi, I have a running site with the default PHP delivered on Suse 8.1, now I need to upgrade to PHP 4.3.1 and was wondering if anyone has a RPM for this PHP version for Suse. If not then what is recommended to be done ? Additionally I do not want to land up with problems on our site and what all should I back up from the 8.1 system to ensure that in case the new release does not work I should be able to do a rollback on the same. I'm having trouble with the fans of my 2CPU machine. They are stopped most of the time, but they are not broken : when I manually push them they start working normally for 10 minutes, then stop again. Is this a hardware problem or a power management feature ? The problem is that if the activity on the machine is heavy, the fans don't start and the machine freezes because the temperature level is too high. Thank you for your ideas. Thomas

Firstly, hit the "New" button to start a new thread. You've hit "Reply" and hijacked someone else's call for assistance.

Sounds like they're broken. I don't know of a power management feature which detects a fan being push started! They should run all the time AFAIK. Perhaps the bearing is a a bit sticky or something? Just replace them. -- "...our desktop is falling behind stability-wise and feature wise to KDE ...when I went to Mexico in December to the facility where we launched gnome, they had all switched to KDE3." - Miguel de Icaza, March 2003

Depending on the age of the computer and fans you may have two problems. One is the fans are dying and the other could be a power supply not large enough for your load. I'm betting it is both! The only time your symptoms have appeared on any machines I am acquainted with was when the fan was going bad. Fans stop because of no power, lo power, or dieing fans. The only time stopping is normal is when you turn off the power. Richard
Thanks to both of you. I guess I'll change both - I allready changed fans not too long ago... So i'll try to switch the power supply first. Thomas Richard wrote:
