I am unable to get my modem to start the dial sequence. It is a USR Sportster 28.8 Faxmodem. I have run PPPsetup.v.1.98 by Kent Robotti and when I enter ppp-go nothing happens. I have redone the setup three times with no improvement. Any ideas would be appreciated. I have also tried both the default initialization in the script and "AT&F1" as per the modem manual. I am running 5.1. on a Pentium 100 Denis -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Hi, Can you dial out with minicom? Or at least get a dialtone? If not, then the modem isn't setup right. Are you running this as root? SuSe has a DIALOUT group that any modem user must be in. So if you are trying to run your dialing script as a user, the user must be in the dialout group. Those are the only hints I have. zentara -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
