[opensuse] Apparmor question [½OT]
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, "Years" ago I was subscribed to the Apparmor-general mail list, which has no traffic for months. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I got an email reporting that I have been automatically subscribed to "apparmor@lists.ubuntu.com": Here is the new home of the AppArmor mailing list. You've been subscribed here since you were subscribed at the old list. In the interests of consolidation, the old -general and -dev lists have been merged. Welcome to the AppArmor@lists.ubuntu.com mailing list! Has the (old Novell's) apparmour project moved to Ubuntu, then? (I know the main dev(s) "went" out of Novell long ago) Has anybody else got this notice, or is it some kind of weird "quasi-spam"? And... what will happen to Yast's support of AA, will it be dropped? - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Ahhhh... ] When Novell Forge was first launched Novell recognized the need for a site ] dedicated to providing hosting services to a growing number of software ] development projects, many supporting our open source initiatives. ... ] Now that there are many other options, Novell can turn its focus to ] other areas and pass the project hosting responsibilities to these other ] dedicated hosting sites. Novell will be decommissioning the Novell Forge ] system on March 1, 2010. What follows is a time line for this process ] which will allow owners of Novell Forge projects to locate new homes and ] make the transition to their new hosting site of choice. Well, that clarifies why any project there has to move out. The same as we oS translators had to move out to berlioz. I didn't know that. It is curious, though, that on the sidebar I get this: ] Project Highlight ] ] AppArmor is the most effective and easy-to-use Linux application ] security system available today. AppArmor proactively protects the ] operating system and applications from external or internal threats, ] even zero-day attacks, by enforcing good behavior and preventing even ] unknown application flaws from being exploited. Learn more about ] AppArmor Which is funny, as we are well beyond that time limit date on March. However, the last update on the AA link there is "AppArmor 2.3-Beta1 on 2008-07-22... which poses the new question, where has been AA hosted all this time, and then why the resubscription now, not then? :-? And new question... is 2.3 the last version? Because that's the version on oS 11.0 and 11.2. Has Ubuntu the same version? I'm afraid of seeking the answer and finding out that they have a newer version which we don't... I hope not. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. The last developer was laid off by Novell last year and has moved to Ubuntu in the meantime. They have kinda picked up the kernel development of Apparmor.
Has anybody else got this notice, or is it some kind of weird "quasi-spam"?
No, it is genuine. You were just subscribed there.
And... what will happen to Yast's support of AA, will it be dropped?

I see.

Thanks, that clarifies it a bit. It is a bit odd, anyway, that they had the list of subscribers to the old list and susbcribed people to the new list without prior consent. No harm done, but... curious at least. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. It is change in hosting server, not in character of the list, so there is no need to ask you for consent, but only to notify you so that you can fix spam filters. It's not really that unusual - when mailing lists move, copying the subscribers is a very decent/reasonable thing to do. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (16.1°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I dunno... I'm not disgusted in anyway, just surprised, after many months of silence. Last post was on October. If the list was an independent one, it would be clear, just a server change. But as it was a Novell project hosted on @forge.novell.com, the switch to a list server on Ubuntu took me by surprise. Then, if I have a problem with yast not handling an AA event (which I have, as a matter of fact), I don't know if I can ask about YaST problems on an Ubuntu list, or whether I should ask here in this list, or open Bugzillas here or in Ubuntu, and if they will be ignored on both sites. Lot of doubts, you see... :-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Me too - it would have been nice with a quick explanation, I agree. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (17.9°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
