[SuSE Linux] .fetchmailrc needs tweaking

<snip> It's not included in the 5.3 dist. I grabbed the fetchmail-4.6.9.tar.gz source and compiled it. The 5.3 dist does include fetchmail, which is installed in the /usr/bin dir. Btw, you'll need the Tk and Python installed to use fetchmailconf. Dana -- dlaude@execpc.com Dana J. Hey, after playing around, and looking at the fetchmail faq, I found even an easier way, (for single user that is)... no procmail needed!!!! Try: mda "cat >>~/Mail/inbox" flush then set Pine up to use that inbox. and to cheat even more, let a user run sendmail by chowning it to group "dialout"; then setup pine so the smtp server line is blank; so that pine dumps the outgoing emails into /var/mqueue. I know that this is simple stuff, but I feel a great sense of accomplishment knowing I can do command line mail now. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

No, that isn't it. My email username is the entire email address. The problem is I have the wrong protocol. I was assuming pop3, but it is APOP, "Authorized POP". So I just need to change the protocol to APOP. I guess alot of mailservers are switching to it. You can tell if you have APOP, by looking at the first header line you get from the mail server. If it is an internet address in brackets, with some long number as the first entry, then it is APOP. I guess the APOP protocol takes that number, and encrypts the password, and the number changes each time.

Those are part of the Motif or Lesstif libraries. Ciao, Stefan P. S. If you start a new subject, then _please_ use the compose rather then the reply function of your mailer, because otherwise the thread gets messed up. Is this your userid that you access your isp with?
