OK. Here are my results so far. When I reboot now and do a hdparm /dev/hda I get result: DMA = 1 (on). However what I really want is to have /dev/dvd DMA =1 (on). I still have to enable this manually every time I reboot. Thanks again for all the help.

And what did you have done, that /dev/hda is now "dma=1" after reboot? It wasn't so before, right?

I found out that all I did was putting the right arguments in /etc/sysconfig/hardwareDEVICES_FORCE_IDE_DMA="/dev/hda:on /dev/dvd:on" as you suggested before , and it all, including the dvd, works at start up.
