[opensuse] Leap and Nvidia GTX 950M
Hi all, I've got a new laptop an Asus K501UX. Originally it had Freedos which I intended to delete and install Leap instead. Installation was smooth from USB, but the installed system does not start. I get seemingly the same error message at least fifty times. This is a one row message containing the word nouveau, so I think the problem is with the video driver. The login screen is not displayed, the system hangs. Any experience out there with this card? Regards, Albert

Are you sure it's NVIDIA only? Not Intel+NVIDIA? What happens if you boot with 'nomodeset'. -- Gertjan Lettink, a.k.a. Knurpht openSUSE Board Member openSUSE Forums Team -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As far as I know, it has only Nvidia, but will have a look at it. How could I set nomodeset, once I cannot login? Please help! Albert

You set 'nomodeset' in your bootloader when the system boots up. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.1°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

In the GRUB boot menu, hit "e" Move the cursor to the end of the kernel boot line, after "showopts" add a space and "nomodeset" ( without quotes ). -- Gertjan Lettink, a.k.a. Thank you all, the sytem is up now. With not too nice display, of course. I attempt to download newer packages, after i figured out how to connect. At the moment no wifi, no wired connection no touchpad. Albert
