[opensuse] use smartctl

For the last few months, I have continually been getting degraded raid events on all my raided drives. I finally figured out that I had a bad power supply that was intermittently cutting out power to the hard drives. I figured this out also by swapping out with new hard drives from time to time that I was pretty sure were good drives, but the degraded raid event seemed to be happening anyway.
smartctl will tell you if the drives are good. If I am getting degraded array events without any smart tests failing, I know it's unlikely to be the drive.
I don't know for sure, but having degraded raid events, then having the raid drives restored, then having them degrade event, multiple times over several months - well, that's bound to affect other systems, right?
Not necessarily, if these are heavily loaded machines, I guess you might notice the IO hit during the rebuilding.
Which would cause the logs to be working overtime whenever any kind of anomalous event happened, right?
Perhaps 2-3 lines per event :-) -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.9°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
