[opensuse] USB problems with Suse 10.2
Got a new 2GB memory stick and found out that on my system the stick is sometimes automatically recognized as /dev/sda1 but if I want to work with it it tells me it does not exist. Mounting /dev/sda1 gives the same information. Can somebody tell me how to force this USB stick to work on my computer. Other USB products like a cardreader and a smaller USB stick (which I do not have at hand at the moment) are working properly. What should I do? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Is it formatted? Plug it in and check with "dmesg" if it was recognised and where/if it was mounted. When you have it mounted, you can right-click on it (assuming you are using KDE, not sure abou Gnome) and under the "Mounting" tab you can specify where it should be mounted in the future. Dear Hans, Using KDE and this stick shows in a "Mounting" tab. When I right click on it Konquerer shows up with sometimes showing the stick. One in approx. ten times I even could read the contents but any further work on the contents was then aborted because the stick was "not recognized" any more. Very frustrating. On my Laptop also with 10.2 it works as it should. My desktop has an early USB version 1 and with 10.0 I was even forced to use acpi=force in the boot sequence. That does not seem to work with Suse 10.2 and its kernels. I even had a freeze with acpi=force. Is there still a method to get the recalcitrant USB stick to mount. /dev/sda1 is not available. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
