I have 2 machines, in the same workgroup, that are both connected into the same network switch, one on Win XP Pro and the other on SuSE 9.0 Pro.
What I would like to do is initially browse the Windows PC from the 'Local Network' icon the SuSE desktop.
I also have the same setup both in the office and at home. The only difference is that I have SuSE 9.1 Pro and the latest version of Samba, but even with SuSE 9.1 Pro out the box I have no problem. Glad to hear I ain't so unique :) except of course the fact that you have 9.1. The next SuSE version I hope is going to be a kicker so considering the umber of '9.1 errors' on this list, I'll wait.
Using SuSE: When I try and access the Win_XP C$ drive from SuSE, SuSE displays a message that says 'Please enter authentication information for Server: Win_XP' including a place for me to enter a username and password.
In the office I also get this as my WinXP PC is in a different workgroup (Domain), but I enter the appropiate password and it works. At home both SuSE and XP are in the same workgroup and here I don't have to enter a password. ditto here for my home machines, provided I am accessing My Documents on Win XP.
Here is how I did it, don't know if it make a difference. [snip]
I followed much the same setup path as you did and can easily get into My Documents sans passwd but the moment I try C$ or Win_XP-C$, I need a password and username to view it's contents.
..I am a complete Linux beginner, so there maybe an easier way or better way of doing this, ditto on being a beginner. I use the way that I understand and that works for me, unfortunately though, the way I understand things doesn't always work for the system. :)
