Xconsole on restart (take 2)
A time ago I posted this same question withouth any luck. Hope this time get some guidance: When I restart X I get the messages xconsole every other time: one yes, the other no. Is there a way to make the xconsole to appear every time? Is this a feature or a bug? TIA. Jorge

Most likely it's a permission problem. I appended to /etc/logindevperm:
:0 0622 /dev/xconsole:/dev/modem
Now the person logged in to the console (me) can run xconsole, and can use
the modem (except that it's a winmodem now, but that's another story.)
Possibly the alternating behavior you saw had to do with sometime logging
in as root.
