RE: [SLE] loading sound blaster live when boot up
for the first one, try touch /etc/modules.conf /lib/modules/2.2.13/modules.dep to get rid of the date message, both will have the same time stamp, and you shouldn't get the messag anymore. Someone else will have to help with no. 2. Lee

Hi:
I did what you guys said and I get the sound blaster live working in my system. Thanks a lot. However, I do have two more questions and need you guys' expert help.
1) Now, I always get a warning about /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.2.13/modules.dep. Is it normal and how do I get rid of it? 2) It seems like everytime I have to type insmod emu10k1 to activate the sound as root. How can I implement it in a way that it will load up when the system is boot up?
Thanks for all your help :)

Actually, the preferred method is `depmod -a' which will actually *tell* you if something is wrong...

After running depmod, the modules will load and unload as needed. Check /usr/doc/packages/modutils ;). If you're paranoid, though, you can insert a line in /sbin/init.d/boot.local like: modprobe emu10k -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x121 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

What you should actually do is use the command 'depmod -a'. That should get rid of the message.

Place the insmod line /sbin/init.d/boot.local. However, it is normally a better idea to use the modprobe command instead of insmod, as this will load all other modules that your module depends upon.
