Has anyone tried this Linux from Redmond? There is a very laudatory review of it, in terms of ease of installation and use, on line (Linux Today). How does it stack up against SuSE or RedHat or Mandrake? djtuchler

Haven't tried it yet, but I plan to try a quick install soon. From what I've seen it looks nice, but lacks some important features/applications. I've also considered porting some of their applications to KDE3. I'll let you know what I find. :) Regards, Pieter Hulshoff
I received this distro on my Linux Format magazine Monthly DVD. That was about five or six months ago. At that time it was called Redmond Linux. The magazine gave it a good review as a good beginners Linux distro. I tried to install it but it couldn't handle Geforce 2 video adapter and I didn't feel it was worth copying the iso files, and updating them to make this distro installable. But I have to say a distro that doesn't support geforce 2 cards is very weak. Maybe the newer release does. On Wednesday 28 August 2002 07:08 am, Pieter Hulshoff wrote:

You must have had a very old build then. I tried a couple of versions of Lycoris (one even still called Redmond Linux) and they all worked fine with my Geforce 2. Op donderdag 29 augustus 2002 03:02, schreef Max Webb:

MSNBC and pcworld had very positive reviews awhile back and I tried it then. It was a very nice, very simple distro for people who may not be very computer literate who wish to come over to Linux. Power users probably would find it too limiting. It follows the KISS methodology: kde only, 1 browser, 1 media player, 1 editor, etc. Their networking was excellent, imho. It automagically found my windows box and other linux boxes. Overall, I'd give it an 8 for newbies. I think there is a niche for a simple distro like this. They've come a long way since they were Redmond Linux yet they still only have 5 employees. Regards, Charles __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
