The same problem exists on all of my machines (Intel and AMD) that are running the 2.4.21-192 kernel and kernel-source. I need this to work so that I can compile the driver modules for my Digium voice cards. Does anyone else have the same problem? Wouldn't it be simpler, to just write: make mrproper cloneconfig dep bzImage modules modules_install

Sure. Thats just semantics though.. It doesn't fix the problem of "make modules_install" failing with missing dependencies... - -- Peter Nixon http://www.peternixon.net/ PGP Key: http://www.peternixon.net/public.asc -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFARuxPAcdsUt9pJjwRAonqAJ4m4IQgKSqBi8Pm/pt1jBt2DRPIZgCguPn7 zk8oXrALwPlPrIaZ/WKfWUQ= =wxFE -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

When you did the cloneconfig, where you running the SuSE built binary? -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Yes. I was. - -- Peter Nixon http://www.peternixon.net/ PGP Key: http://www.peternixon.net/public.asc -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFATGlKAcdsUt9pJjwRAo3PAKCiQ/tYQvjgAoRLrhAZCI4JOlRx/wCdFUYI EyXRdrsFXdcRV/95lG23T3E= =KbTb -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Yes. I was.
It should have worked... if you were running the suse supplied binary mathing those sources, cloneconfig should generate an identical config as used to create them. Another thing I do is editing the Makefile so that extraversion equates to something: if we don't, the modules_install phase will overwrite the original suse modules. Unless... unless you also need to compile the pcmcia modules, which belong to another package. I think there is mention of this on the manual... I can't be too precise, I don't have a pcmcia. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Possibly; but I heard something against, not explained. I don't know. In any case, mrproper is an overkill. I do: make cloneconfig edit Makefile, set extraversion to something (¡IMPORTANT!) make menuconfig, change CPU as appropiate make dep make bzImage modules make modules_install install -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
