[OT] Anyone got Win4Lin working on SuSE 7.1
Hi, Just wondering if anyone has managed to get Win4Lin 2.0 working on SuSE 7.1. I have patched the SuSE 2.2.18 Kernel as well using the pre-patched 2.2.18 kernel on Netraverse they all appear to compile OK. The mki_install_hooks appear to be OK. Win4Lin seems to install without any errors. When I go to install Windows it fails with the following error message IMPROPER_INSTL: dos : ERROR: Improperly installed Permissions or privileges are incorrect. The same error message appears when I run /usr/bin/dosboot Regards, Graham Smith ----------------------------------

I have, but it's really a hybrid system -- 6.3 with 7.1 updates but still with KDE 1.2 and the 2.2.18 kernel. I didn't do a reinstall of Win4Lin except for the kernel mods via the .rpm. And I'm using a stock 2.2.18 kernel, not one from SuSE.

no idea, I'm afraid. Paul Abrahams
Funny... I was told by Netraverse that they don't support any kernel above 2.2.16, but that they will support all kernels including the 2.4.x in the release version of 3.0. I'm gonna be waiting for the release version of 4.0 (or 3.5, or whatever) myself, when they finally get shared libraries and shared memory working, so that each user doesn't have to have a full Windows install. charles

They don't support 2.2.17 or 2.2.18, but the 2.2.16 patches applied to the 2.2.18 sources seemed to work for me anyway. Paul Abrahams
