Plantronics USB headset and mute button
Hi *, I use a Plantronics USB headset, which has volume buttons (level up/down, mute). Pressing the mute button, the headset says "open mic on"/"open mic off". As for applications like Citrix workspace app or Microsoft Teams the mute state was synched, so that the app also shows a mic symbol, that was crossed out or not. If such an app was connected, the red led at the USB plug also showed the state of the mute button; if it was red, the headset's micro was muted. I could either press the headset's mute button or the virtual mute button in the app with the same result. Starting today, this sync stopped working. As for the GUI itself everything works as usual - "open mic on"/"open mic off" and level up and down. But the apps don't get the mute state any longer. To really mute or unmute the mic I have to klick the virtual button in the app, pressing the physical mute button of the headset has no effect. Also the red led does not show the mute state any longer. The only change from yesterday was the installation of the latest Tumbleweed snapshot 20230307, but as for the history it contains no package that could have such an effect - at least not obvious for me. I tried switching between pulseaudio and pipewire to no avail. Any idea, what might have caused this and what to do to get the desired state back? TIA. Bye. Michael.

Probable Causes: You could have exceeded the allocated power on your USB port, rendering the mute switch inactive. Possible Human Interface Device conflict or missing drivers. Solution(s): Disconnect the headset, and then reconnect it to see if this reactivates the mute switch. If so, then you might have insufficient USB power. You could be missing a driver. Go to your Device Manager (instructions below) and look for the Human Interface Device. Make sure there are no conflicts on the HID Compliant Consumer Control Device or the USB Human Interface Device. Thx for your answer, but in my case the button is working, it just does not sync with some applications. Unplugging and plugin in again does not help, also using the headset as the only USB device doesn't help. As for the drivers, this obviously is a windows thing. Bye. Michael.
