Hi, I installed SuSE enterprise server 8.1. I can not perform on-line update by YaST2 because authorization is required for accessing http://sdb.suse.de/download. How can I get the user and passwd for the access ? Any other workaround? Ben

If you got the software, you should also have the key to register. Then SuSE will provide the user and password to access. Why there should be a workaround? You got a product that needs to be registered to get support, AFAIK.
I had throught I could use YaST2 freely. I got the OS images from the web. So I can not use YaST2 to update the system if it is not registered. Any ideas for the systems to be updated easily? where did you get them? I thought that there were no ISO available for SLES 8.1 Again, AFAIK, the only way to get access the YaST2 update for SLES is via user and password. Our UnitedLinux 1.0 (derived from SLES) uses APT for update, and we had to register the product before getting the passcodes. regards, ===== Riccardo G. Facchini

You are using it for free. It is working as designed for SLES 8. If you actually want the updates to apply to your "free" copy of SLES 8 you need to purchase the support from SUSE, get the user ID and passwords, and then login to the support site and update! Stan

[snip] What intrigues me is that mention to

Do I have any clue? My kids think I'm pretty clueless... Anyway, those would be 'pirated' ISOs. They aren't official SUSE ISOs. Along with those ISOs you would need to find the updates from an unofficial source to keep SLES up-to-date with all patches and security fixes. Since this is an "Enterprise Server" product I would not choose to run my business on anything that is "very hard to verify the authenticity of"... Stan

Don't worry... We all get there... my kids still think that I'm "Dad, Fix It". but I'm feeling that the older one is already going on the phase "Dad's clueless".

I agree with you.. I just wanted to confirm that there are no Official ISOs available for SLES. Not even "developer" ISOs.

[snip] Well... MY business is still running on UL 1.0, but we'll probably switch to SLES 9, whenever comes out... We bought it (my mistake, probably... given how things are turning), but I must say is still running smooth.. regards, ===== Riccardo G. Facchini
