[opensuse] kill a process
Hi I have iTALC Client 1.0.9-rc4 in the systray. I didn't want it there. There is no right click option to quit it and ps ux doesn't give any reference to it so I can't find the pid and kill it. Does anyone know either what it's called in the pid list or tell me how to lose it? KDE 3 and KDE 4 with 11.0 Thanks, L -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Add 'a' to the 'ps' command line, for "all", and try again. I prefer 'ps afx'. Or try to find the rpm, and from the figure out the command line. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Hola Carlos I found the rpm it's called italc So I tried this: lynn@hh1:~> ps aux | grep "italc" lynn 23016 0.0 0.0 5236 816 pts/1 S+ 16:32 0:00 grep italc lynn@hh1:~> kill -9 23016 bash: kill: (23016) - No such process Maybe still got the syntax wrong? When you use ps with grep like this, you'll always get one spurious "hit," the grep process itself. That's what you saw. By the time you tried the kill command, that process had died its natural death. I'm not an expert, but I think some tray applications are not associated with a separate process, but rather are hosted by a KDE (or Gnome) process that is used to host these parasitic applications. Have you tried activating the app via the tray (with a double-click, maybe?) and looking for a "quit" or "exit" command in its menus? You tried to kill the already dead "grep italc" command you yourself wrote :-p rpm -q -i -l italc will tell you several things, including which one is the program, and hopefully, some documentation. I can't tell you, I don't have it installed. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
