So you want to create /dev/null because it is gone? If that is the case, this is the command as root: % mknod -m 666 /dev/null c 1 3 Does that help? -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A. well i guess i am getting good
man null -m 666 /dev/null c 3 and bingo it

I corrupted /dev/null about two years ago - I cannot remember the solution but it should be in the archives. A very helpfull chap from the States gave me the command (at about 0100 GMT) within about 20 minutes of posting the request. Good Luck Francesco
