Re: [opensuse] SUSE CRASH, Stuff doesn't work now.
I haven't done any overclocking. power, not sure. I have Ubuntu too. Oddly enough, that one crashes every so often as well. I don't think my power is bad though, how should I test it (this being a notebook). The RAM passed the MEMTEST. I don't think the CPU is overheating but I'll check my hardware. According to my readout, both cores are operating at half their capacity (how can you increase it)? Any idea what I can use to test my hardware. I doubt my hardware is bad but if it is, I don't want to, but I'll send this stuff back to the manufacturer lol. On Wed Dec 27 22:35 , J Sloan sent:

So my OpenSuse 10.2 crashed on me. I had amaroK,GTK-Gnutella, GAIM, and Firefox open. My computer froze (this is new to me) and I had to hard reboot it. When it started, two things didn't work (that I know of).
1) KPowerSave won't start. This is my error message: System configuration startup check disabled.
2) YaST Software Management doesn't recognize my OpenSUSe 10.2 CD as a source anymore. It won't let me go to other sources either until I click Skip about 15 times. Any ideas of what's wrong?
Also, what can cause OpenSuSe 10.2 to freeze? What can I do to prevent it from freezing/crashing? If a freeze does happen, what steps should I take to prevent errors. If errors happen, what can I do to recover? Thanks all.
Just a shot in the dark, but this sounds suspiciously like bad hardware.
What sort of hardware is this, and have you run any sort of diagnostics to rule out hardware issues? (bad RAM, gimpy power supply, overheating CPU, overclocking?)

It's normal operation--when the processors don't have much to do, they run at lower frequency to conserve power. If there's a resource intensive task, they will go to full frequency.

Something is fishy, Linux doesn't just freeze for no reason. Do you see anything strange in /var/log/messages prior to freeze? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
