Not a stupid question at all..... The only way I know is to shut down X and then restart. ctrl-alt-F2 (or F3-F5) This will bring up another prompt and you can "startx" and bring up a different wm. (to go back to KDE.....ctrl-alt-F7) -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I did that once (tho not in KDE), my better half was on the pc and I needed to do something as root, and rather than have her log off, I just went to another virtual screen (ctrl-alt-f2) forgot she had Xfree running, thought I could do something in Xfree, so ran startx and it came up with a Xfree Display Lock error.
(to go back to KDE.....ctrl-alt-F7)

I doubt this is a stupid question; I've had similar problems when I started with SuSE. :) Two ways: 1) if you're using $WINDOWMANAGER, then 'export WINDOWMANAGER=fvwm2' or 2) if you're using .xsession, then change 'exec startkde' to 'exec fvwm2' in your .xsession. If you're setting $WINDOWMANAGER from .bashrc, .profile, or /etc/profile (or any other way for that matter :P), be sure to 'source .bashrc (or whatever file you're using). -- James PS: The above is guessing that fvwm2 is still installed on your system, though. ;) -- -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.1 G! d- s+:-- a23 C++>++++ ULB>+++$ P++>++++$ L++>+++++ E>++ W+>+++$ N+ o?
