i am getting ithis error trying to install latest suse postfix error: failed dependencies: sendmail conflicts with postfix-19991231pl13-1 -- SuSe 7.0 Linux 2.4.2 i686 Thu May 17 17:05:00 EDT 2001
That makes sense, both are Mail Transport Agents (MTA), the daemon
that listens to port 25 for SMTP requests. Why do you want to have
both?

Yes, but it is installed. Do this: rpm -Uvh --nodeps --force <file> * Landy Roman (landie@concentric.net) [010517 15:04]: ->i dont have both i mean sendmail is not ->active -> -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.
RPM doesn't know that. Either uninstall sendmail or force the install
("rpm --nodeps postfix-19991231pl13-1.rpm"). Doing so may step on
something Sendmail uses, caveat installer ;)

Hi, Postfix is a drop in replacement for sendmail, just uninstall sendmail before installing postfix. # rpm -e sendmail # rpm -ivh postfix-xxxxx.rpm Change a few parameters in /etc/postfix/main.cf and you are ready to go.
