As I understand it, final approval of all changes in the Linux code is made by Linus Torvalds. What happens if Linus Torvalds is disabled? Is there a backup system to take over the chore of approving changes to the Linux code? -- dj tuchler dtuchler@earthlink.net

Chances are there would be a vote from the kernel-core developers. My bet would be Alan Cox or David Jones. Tom - -- Paranoids are people, too; they have their own problems. Linus has the final word in the current 2.5 kernel development series, but the mainstream 2.4 kernel is managed by a guy from Brazil called Marcelo Tosatti, and the 2.2 kernel (the previous mainstream version which is still in use all over the place) is maintained by Alan Cox. The kernel has been passed on a couple of times now, from Linus to Alan and then again to Marcelo, and if it needs to be passed on again for whatever reason, im sure it wouldn't be that big a deal.
