I've upgraded Firefox to 8.0 and not when I try viewing podcasts I've viewed in the past I get a message telling me ...

Well I *DO* have flash installed. Following the link on the http://event.on24.com page for the podcast to download from Adobe just tells me that its already up to date. flash-plugin-11.1.102.55-release.i386 This worked last week; its this damned update! Do a complete uninstallation and remove all the flash files, even from ~/.mozilla and then reboot. Try installing back. It happens sometimes, happens with me too in FF8. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Unfortunately I cannot diagnose your system remotely but flash-plugin-11.1.102.55-release.i386 is not a Flash RPM delivered by openSUSE. Is your Firefox from openSUSE? Then I would not blame this update but your mix of different vendors. At openSUSE we make sure that the stuff which is delivered within the distribution just works (at least we try to). And for me the combination of Firefox and Flash works. Actually I would be interested why something broke for you to even further improve the openSUSE Firefox package to work with arbitrary third party packages. So how about giving some more information before you remove any non-openSUSE Flash package and install "zypper in flash-player". rpm -ql flash-plugin-11.1.102.55-release.i386 rpm -V flash-plugin-11.1.102.55-release.i386 ls -l /usr/lib/browser-plugins find /usr/lib -name "libflashplay*.so" find $HOME/.mozilla -name "libflashplay*.so" search for flash in about:plugins Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ah, that's it. The error message I quoted had a link to download the flash player from the Adobe site. I followed the link, downloaded and installed the RPM I mentioned in my previous message. Silly me for following vendor advise.

Overnight I did get things to work and I'm surprised. You know how when you're tied you don't think quite straight and do silly things. Well I went into the ... not the about:config, but the part of the FF setup where you can set the MIME mapping and played there. I set all the "video" (except quicktime) to use Dragon Player. I haven't a clue why that worked but it did. So now, after rectification following your advice: MozillaFirefox-8.0-2.3.i586 flash-player-11.1.102.55-65.2.i586 flash-player-kde4-11.1.102.55-65.2.i586 flash-plugin-10.3.183.5-release.i386 -- Lead and inspire people. It was the advice of some website out there. That's totally different I'd say ;-)

You should get rid of flash-plugin-10.3.183.5-release.i386 (you might need to reinstall the flash-player* packages afterwards but that's not sure). Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The overriding question is "Why wouldn't it work?" Was it just a path or config issue or something more? Did you ever get a feel for where the problem with the adobe rpm was? If I get a chance, I'll try pulling the opensuse package and the adobe file and see if I can figure out why the adobe rpm failed. Theoretically, you should be able to grab any upstream source and run in on your box with minimal config changes... It sounds like a shared library location issue. The flash plugin has always been handled like a step-child as far as where the .so ends up... -- David C.
