I have a problem using NFS with SLES 9. I can access our NAS server and mount the share. It's used for maildir and pub directories of the users. Everything works and the data are readable and writable. But I can't lock the files and therefore no quotas are available.
The kernel shows the following error:
May 14 14:23:38 vrwtb2 kernel: lockd/statd: failed to create /var/lib/ nfs/sm/nas01: err=-2 May 14 14:23:38 vrwtb2 kernel: lockd: failed to monitor nas01
Did you try to force NFSv3 (mount option nfsvers). I encountered several problems with NFSv4 between Linux and Solaris, some of them in the locking area. Forcing Linux and Solaris to use v3 made it work again; maybe there's a similar issue at your situation.
