We have all 8.1 servers and clients. I have the 8.2 dvd1 mounted under /srv/ftp/pub and the clients can see it. Yast can also see it. I choose yast>system update. The dvd on the server whirrs away and there is a message that 450 packages have been updated after about 30 minutes. I reboot the client and everything is the same 8.1 I had before. What am I doing wrong? The ftp instructions on the suse site have been down for 2 days now. Thanks, Steve.

You have to boot the client machine from the dvd, cd, or install floppy, and then, tell it to use network source for install/update. You can not use the running system (old, client) to pull the update. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
