on Thu, 17 Apr 2003 09:32:01 -0400*** InterVideo to port Microsoft Windows Media technology to Linux. The move will allow InterVideo, a supplier of digital audio and video software, to port Windows Media code to its embedded Linux version and include it in its software.
dunno if this is a Hoorah or hoo hah! I suppose for those addicted to streaming stuff it *might* make them happy.. tho I suspect that using this thing will mess up your "digital rights in favour of those from the Music, video, and god knows who else that is trying to remove "fair use" from our laws!
That's why I posted it here! I see this, (KNOWING how underhanded MickySoft is), as an attempt to bring DRM to Linux.....do it "in the back door." Fred -- Fred A. Miller Systems Administrator Cornell Univ. Press Services fm@cupserv.org, www.cupserv.org

If they're indeed trying to "back door" DRM you can bet your bottom dollar that someone will find a crack/workaround for this pronto. This is OSS so it wouldn't be long before this was sent to dev null if indeed it's M$ backstabbing and subversion Biz a usual tactics. The upside to M$ trying this and then getting found out is that Linux/OSS would have solid proof of M$' trying to undermine or do the 3E on Linux and the Open Source community... And then well have one more piece of evidence that no matter what Bill and company say their is "absolutely" no way to trust them (as if this isn't already a given). The old addage "I know you're lying because your lips are moving" would be the byword of the day even more so. Cheers, Curtis.
