[SLE] Selecting new hardware and possible software
Ok I know there have been lots of discussions regarding the hardware but as you would agree every day a new stuff comes out. I have one of the disk's installed with M$ windows and the other one is Suse 6.3 this machine is a standalone machine makes a dialup connection to the ISP that is all regading networking. Main use of the system is office applications (presentations, spreadsheets small databases and producing documentation for projects like writing manuals) along with web design which includes image scanning and image manuplation What would you suggest for the following hardware since I won'be upgrading my 2 X 13 GB Quantum Fireball UDMA hard disks. If I have forgotten something necessary please add. MAINBOARD: CPU: CDWRITER: GRAPHICS ADAPTER SCANNER: Currently I have Staroffice, Linux Office Suite 99 with Applix 4.4.2 and ADABAS Desktop edition as the software. For the above duties would you recommend any other software. Thanks in advance -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? That's a very open question, and one which depends to a large extent on how much you're willing to spend - whether you're after the best that money can buy (within reason) or the cheapest you can get away with and still be able to easily do the above tasks, or somewhere in between. Here's my suggestion for the somewhere in between (not *too* expensive, comparitively, but not bargain basement, either):
MAINBOARD:
BioStar M7MKA (ever heard of them? ;-) )
CPU:
Athlon 600MHz
CDWRITER:
No help from me whatsoever here :(
GRAPHICS ADAPTER
Matrox G400
SCANNER:
I'm not really qualified to comment on this one, but a decent, if slightly old, scanner would be the Umax Astra 1220S.
Well, for image scanning and manipulation, SANE and the GIMP.
