Saw a post on linuxtoday.com and decided to take a look at it. They say they have .rpm's for RH, any chance this might work on SuSE 6.4 or 7.0? I thought about giving it a go tonight for drill, but wanted to post to the list and see if anyone else has tried. BTW, thanks a bunch for the responses about upgrading to the new kernel! I will definately wait. It's not a big deal for me to wait. Thanks again, Daniel

I installed it a week ago. I had to do --force --nodeps --replacepackgs. Seemed to do no harm. However, it is not a big whoop, at least not yet. Nice, but could be lived without. You will also probably need to install just about all the other libraries, etc. listed on the site. Every once in a while, I have to kill medussa which is some sort of web daemon. Have fun. -- TRBishop tb64710@alltel.net RLU#12043 SuSE 7.0.Pro / BeOS 5 Pro
I would suggest waiting until they make SuSE RPM's. I saw that they have directories setup for this on their FTP site. I got a CD Preview from them so I could test it. The installer did horrible things to my system or tried to because it's very Redhat Centric. It tried to uninstall HelixGnome because it was in /opt and it also tried to uninstall Mozilla because it was in /opt and then force the same versions in /usr/share or where ever Redhat keeps these things. I forced the stuff it actually need in and it didn't really work well at all. The nice shell you see in photos that it puts over Gnome does work and Nautilus isn't very impressive without it. I am a huge Gnome fan but I also thing KDE2 rocks. I was never much into KDE1..it was crap as far as I was concerned. KDE2 + Konqueror blows the doors off Nautilus (yes, I saw and used it on a friends Redhat system)... I say this with no personal bias..but as the truth..as a geek looking for cool stuff. It's so Redhat centric that it will just cause you too pull your hair out trying to get it to work. Check it out for yourself if you must. Let me know how you fair with it. * Daniel Casey (dwcasey@mysun.com) [010130 14:54]: =>Saw a post on linuxtoday.com and decided to take a look at it. => =>They say they have .rpm's for RH, any chance this might work on SuSE 6.4 =>or 7.0? => =>I thought about giving it a go tonight for drill, but wanted to post to =>the list and see if anyone else has tried. => =>BTW, thanks a bunch for the responses about upgrading to the new kernel! =>I will definately wait. I've been in contact with Eazel about this, they do plan to introduce support for "other distributions" If you want to try, you might want to bear in mind (especially if you use Evolution as well) that the versions of things like Bonobo that Nautilus requires can break Evolution, check the archives of the Evolution mail lists at http://lists.ximian.com/ before doing anything if this is the case. Why not wait for Gnome 1.4 ... I have been told that it will have Evolution and Nautilus merged into it. I could be wrong, but this is what I was told. * James Ogley (ogley@suse.co.uk) [010131 01:50]: => => =>I've been in contact with Eazel about this, they do plan to introduce =>support for "other distributions" => =>If you want to try, you might want to bear in mind (especially if you =>use Evolution as well) that the versions of things like Bonobo that =>Nautilus requires can break Evolution, check the archives of the =>Evolution mail lists at http://lists.ximian.com/ before doing anything =>if this is the case. => -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:brosenb@suse.com --------------------------------------- SuSE Inc. 580 Second St Suite 210 Oakland CA 94607 U.S.A Tel: 1-510-628-3380 EXT:5086 Fax: 1-510-628-3381 --------------------------------------- "There are no problems, only solutions."

Not sure about Evo, but certainly Nautilus will replace GMC in GNOME 1.4, which IIRC is scheduled for sometime this month... -- James Ogley, Network Manager, SuSE Linux Ltd - +44 (0) 20 8 387 4088 @ Work: ogley@suse.co.uk http://www.suse.co.uk @ Home: james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk @ Mobile: riggwelter@sms.genie.co.uk ICQ: 57374251 Slashdot: riggwelter (84180) asylum-mud.org: Riggwelter "I lift up my eyes to the hills, from where does my help come?"
