To All: First of all what real difference is there between the two? Does that difference make enough to go through the trouble of installing? Has anyone asked SuSe-Novell if they are going to update Mozilla as part of their Linux? :-)

I noticed that 1.6 is faster and does not crash like 1.4 did. Also, renedering of web pages is much better, not quite as good as Opera though. Art

If you mean will Moz 1.6 be available via YOU, the answer will be 'no', that's not the way SuSE do updates. Any security problems that may be found in 1.4 will be patched and new releases done, but upgrading to 1.6 would introduce big API/ABI incompatibilities with other software that use Mozilla (such as Epiphany and Galeon, which need to be built for a specific version of Mozilla). However, you can get unofficial builds of 1.6 from ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla or www.usr-local-bin.org -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 9.0). All, Following from this thread I upgraded from Moz 1.2 to 1.6 tonight (ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla) and I'm not going back. Best changes I see are the Junk Mail detection and the Spellcheck (but I too can't get it to use any dictionary other than English/United States). Damian

I have downloaded the 1.6 files (all but devel) but am hesitating. Question, please? If I use YaST to install 1.6 while 1.4 is already present need I have any concerns that there may be conflicts or lost data? Thanks! dmc

David, All I did was (as root) rpm -e mozilla-mail and mozilla, then rpm -i the new packages. My shortcut to mozilla changed from /usr/X11R6/bin/mozilla to /usr/bin/mozilla but that's all. User data is held in the home directories so that wasnt touched. Damian
