[opensuse] problem with usb headset - does not work on skype, gotomeeting etc
On Leap15.1 - we have bought a number of Logitech H430 USB headsets, specifically for e.g. conf calls etc. I cannot get them to work Skype and gotomeeting. I have managed to make it work with arecord and aplay as long as I specify "-c 2", although playback only seems to work over the speaker. Playback works with skype/gotom, only the microphone doesn't. As the headset is technically okay, it is obviously a configuration issue. Any suggestions on where to start looking? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (16.4°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks, that did the trick - I had seen it suggested when I was out googling, but what does it add that I don't already have in KDE ? Does KDE not play well with pulseaudio ? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (15.9°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No idea about Leap's KDE version. On TW it does, from the volume control applet. I can f.e. switch between the internal mic of my laptop and the one

Despite my previous report of success, it still does not work with Skype. I don't have skype, yet installed it on my daughter's laptop. IIRC Skype itself has some config that sets it, and keeps that.

You might try using a browser. It works with Chrome/Chromium, but not Firefox. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

If I remember correctly, Skype has its own control to select the input and output devices. Have you played with those as well? Ph. Yep, also tried those, they pop up when you hover over an icon. Also no success. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (16.5°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Are you using the Skype app or a browser? While the browser works fine, I can't select the headset microphone, though the earphones work. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I downloaded and installed the RPM, but it still launched via the browser when I click on a join link.

To be clear, the microphone doesn't switch, but the headphones do? If so, that's the same problem I have. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Actually, with the skype app, the headset isn't used at all - the microphone doe snot work, and I have audio over the speakers. With e.g. arecord/aplay it works fine, and also in the pavucontrol gui. To me, this is one of the most annoying problems. There is no log, no diagnostics, only groping in the dark and hoping for a miracle. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (14.3°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

We don't have any MS accounts - we only (very) occasionally have a need to join conf calls arranged by others. Usually we will just get a dial-in number, but yesterday this particular customer couldn't work it out :-( -- Per Jessen, Zürich (14.3°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I was using Skype without a MS account for years. All I needed was a Skype account, which I still use. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, the Skype app, but started from the browser. Delete the browser cache and the Skype cookies and permissions. On Firefox and Chrome that would again ask you for permission to use cam and mic and allow you to pick the appropriate one.
