Folks, I've noticed the xconfig file mode section in 4.2 is different from the previous versions in that besides the row x col entries there is a list of decimal numbers which appear to be sync or something. I've looked through the XFree.org web pages for 4.2 and I cannot find any documentation for the syntax and definition of the mode lines. Anybody know how to interpret these and where I can find some useful documentation? Thanks! Babu __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'm not sure what you mean but this might answer it. Modeline "1024x768" 71.39 1024 1040 1216 1400 768 768 776 802 means: Use a pixel frequency of 71.39 Mhz (million pixels per second) Draw 1024 pixels horizontally Move to 1040 pixels horizontally (allows you to move picture) Allow (1216 - 1040) pixels for hsync Move to 1400 pixels (i.e. creates 1400 - 1216 = 182 blank pixels at start of line) Draw 768 pixels vertically Move to 768 pixels vertically vsync for 776 -768 pixels blank 802 - 776 pixels vertically You can adjust these values (usually you change the second and third of each quad keeping the difference constant) to adjust the picture. On many modern monitors you can comment out all modelines because the monitor will handle everything for you.
