[opensuse] synchronizing with zenworks

I was wondering why does synchronizing with zenworks take so long when updating installation sources in YAST. Though I've never actually timed it, it seems to take anywhere between 15 to 30 mins. Is synchronization necessary and what are the downsides of not doing so? IIRC Novell's Zenworks is a suite for centrally managing your systems whether they run MS, Suse or Mac, it's supposed to be quite good, as you've made a manual change to your computer the sync'ing option is to let your ZW's server know about the changes. As you've obviously not got such a machine you can uncheck this option.
