Did you tried the SVGA server? I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 128 AGP 16Mb and it works wonderfully with XFree86 3.3.6 SVGA server. IIRC the 32Mb model is not very different of the 16Mb model, it only has the Rage Theater instead of a Bt829 for the video out.
