I have a dual boot of Linux and Windows ME.. I intend to wipe everything off and then install win me and Linux again. How can I do it. Do I need to start computer with a startup disk, use fdisk to remove partition. Install me and then install Linux? Leo
fdisk won't see the Linux partition.
I found some freeware call 'partitionit' (check znet or other sites) that
blows away the MBR. I use a bootable floppy then zap the MBR.

Windows fdisk see's Linux partitions as "non-dos" partitions and will delete them just fine. :) You should be able to choose to delete the non dos partitions and it shall waste them just fine. Remember to do 'fdisk /mbr' to get rid of lilo so that you are starting fresh. * John McLean (john.mclean@mindspring.com) [020804 10:00]: ::fdisk won't see the Linux partition. ::I found some freeware call 'partitionit' (check znet or other sites) that ::blows away the MBR. WinME and SuSE (depending upon which version) should boot from the CD without the need for a boot disk. IF you find you need a boot disk for WinME try www.bootdisk.com, search around there and you can find images of most, if not all, of the Windows boot disks. (A Win98 disk can also be used for loading WinME.) These windows boot disks will have fdisk and format programs included so you can use fdisk to delete ALL the partitions and then re-create and re-format the partitions. My suggestion would be to use fdisk to delete all partitions, create a primary fat32 partition for WinMe operating system and progams - Drive C - and then create an extended partition for the remainder of the hard drive. If you want to have a data drive for windows, set it up as a the first logical partition within the extended partition (this will be Drive D and can be a convenient location to swap data between WinME and SuSE). Once your windows drives are created and formatted, load WinMe. Then put your SuSE CD in your computer and install SuSE in the remainder of the extended partition. The SuSE partitioning tool will easily create the logical partitions on the extended portion and will even do this automagically if you let it or you can modify the SuSE suggestion and select your own partition configuration. SuSE will setup icons for your existing windows partitions, remember to modify the SuSE partitioning tool in order to select the windows mount points.
