SuSE v9.1 (ATI Radeon 9700) on Dell Inspiron 9100
This weekend I recieved a new laptop and installed Suse v9.1. Much to my amazement, every single hardware device was recognized in the install except (and I expected this) the video controller, an ATI Radeon 9700 with 128Mb ram. ATI's web site says they currently have Linux native drivers for v9.0 with v9.1 (v2.6 kernal) drivers forthcoming. So, the question is, has anyone config'd a Inspiron 9100 for anything else, perhaps VESA frame buffering? I couldn't get any video above 640x480 to work at all. Tried all the usual video tuning and config stuff, no help. I don't mind dropping back to Suse v9.0 if need be, but I'd prefer not to. For the moment, I'm running this new laptop on WinXP until I get the new HD carrier for my second HD for linux, yuck. My Inspiron 8200 is running flawlessly on Suse v9.1 and VMWare. Thanks, Jeff

Did it even recognize it? Should have. Although I'm using a 9500 here, suse installed the basic drivers that gave me 2d support. After that I used the ati drivers from suse's site. Came with instructions on building them. site is ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/XFree86/ATI/suse91/fglrx/ Hope this helps.
