Hi List; I need a web based groupware solution (email, shared calendar, todo list, etc) that would allow the following: 1) web access to the tool 2) ability to allow client tools to access the email, calendar, etc like Kontact and Outlook (Outlook is especially important) 3) the ability to save info locally for 'offline' access to calendar, pulled email, etc via the local client tool 4) It cannot have anything to do with M$ Exchange Any suggestions? -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Zimbra and Scalix are the two that I've seen mentioned around. (Point of curiosity; their corporate offices are located on the same street in San Mateo: Zimbra at 1500 Fashion Island Blvd, and Scalix at 1400 Fashion Island Blvd. Weird.) -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

http://www.opengroupware.org 1) web access to the tool
2) ability to allow client tools to access the email, calendar, etc like Kontact and Outlook (Outlook is especially important)
This is the sticky part. There is a commerical Outlook connector (called ZideLook) for OpenGroupware. 3) the ability to save info locally for 'offline' access to calendar,
pulled email, etc via the local client tool
This is really up to the client to implement. But it works with ZideLook. 4) It cannot have anything to do with M$ Exchange
Try Hula. www.hula-project.org. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
Forgive the toppost, but also look at egroupware. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. We are using Kolab for this: http://www.kolab.org/
1) web access to the tool
Admittedly, that is still in development (via Horde), but some folks on the Kolab lists have reported decent success. For now, we're only offering mail access via Squirrelmail.
2) ability to allow client tools to access the email, calendar, etc like Kontact and Outlook (Outlook is especially important)
There are plugins for Outlook for Kolab, but I haven't tested them.
3) the ability to save info locally for 'offline' access to calendar, pulled email, etc via the local client tool
That's built-in for Kolab, as it's using DIMAP/cached IMAP. One thing to consider if you have Outlook users is the way the agenda works - we were using SLOX before and our Outlook users (or better: those used to Outlook) had big problems with the way appointments worked. SLOX does not send invitations to appointments (like Kolab does and like the Outlook folks are used to) but notifications. The difference is that you can accept/deny an invitation directly upon receipt and if you deny, nothing will be changed in your agenda. Contrary to that, a notification just tells you that an appointment already has been placed into your agenda - you then have to do some extra steps to deny it "after the fact". Our users did not like this at all and this was one of the reasons not to use eGroupware (which - as far as my tests showed - also uses notifications). Check out OpenGroupware.org if it interests you. Outlook connectivity is available but not for free. /ch -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
