A friend of mine is taxing my Network knowledge these days. He has a Windows server and is trying out Linux.... as a Client on his NetBEUI network. The question is.. how do you get Linux to log into ro see the NetBEUI network.... on a Windows server? Is it even possible to work with NetBEUI and Linux? I have done some Google-ing on this and everything I come up with is usually a dead end. Even my Linux+ Certification text books have nothing on this topic. No I don't know why he uses an ancient protocol like NetBEUI... He likes to do things the hard way I guess. Interesting question though.... Anyone have any ideas or suggestions of where I can look for onfo on this? C.

Clayton,
all you need to do is enable and configure the Samba client on the Linux machine. Samba talks NetBEUI over tcp/ip.
Have fun,

To your friend: THIS IS THE MOMENT TO CHANGE TO TCP/IP. |-)

Ha ha... I told him that, but he's a bit stuck in his ways. It has taken me 3 years of subtle nudging to convince him to try SuSE.... baby steps, baby steps. ;-) So far he's impressed... especially with the SuSE8 install. C. On Tuesday 11 June 2002 18:05, David Marti wrote:

If it's not in the Linux+ book, it must not exist!?

Linux does not support NetBEUI. The best place to look for this is /usr/src/linux/net after you install the kernel source. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Linux soldat -- 8.0 SuSE panzer division Got spam? Get spastic http://spastic.sourceforge.net
