I am totally puzzled by SuSE9's behavior in the networking department. I used Mandrake for a long time and never had the problem I will attempt to now describe. In the 'network card' settings I need to have the following in the correct order for my kinternet or kppp connection to work on the internet: 205.xxx.xxx.xxx (ISP addr1) 205.xxx.xxx.xxx (ISP addr2) 192.168.xxx.xxx (LAN ip addr) If I delete any of them or put them in a different order, I can only get my e-mail from the ISP and nothing else w/kppp, and kinternet won't do anything at all beyond connecting. Talking to ISP support's ISDN specialist & the modem mfr have yielded nothing. What is more, the kinternet has worked for just eight days before doing nothing even with the settings unchanged ...and I *mean_unchanged*! In the last six installations the kinternet stopped working properly after five days. Each time I reinstalled SuSE9 from scratch, kinternet would work for five days, then quit, completely beyond the connection itself. Yes, I have made a couple changes: pppd's permission problem seems to be soved, and I changed created a short script to enable /dev/modem to work with either internal or external modem. Beyond that, nothing has changed by my hand. Like I noted above, I am puzzled. I sincerely hope someone can help. I am now stuck on my internal 56k modem. ...CH
