[opensuse] Firefox ESR
LS, I was unpleasantly surprised today after applying the latest updates to 15.1. I normally share the .mozilla directory between TW and 15.1. Now Firefox under 15.1 start wining and does not let me use the data, add-ons etc in my common .mozilla directory. No, I have to make a whole new profile, which I need to maintain also. Double the effort for the same functionality. Many packages on 15.1 are already (very) old, but at least it is slightly more stable then TW. So that's my production environment. TW is used for other purposes. But now it takes extra the effort for syncing both .mozilla directories. What's next, same with Thunderbird? --- Frans. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hm, I must be getting tired now. No, the -p gives you the option to select a profile. However, I have only one profile and when selected, it still denies to continue. Complaining that the current profile is too old, while the TW Firefox in fact is newer. -- Frans -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

do it, and launch -p after that, choose the old profile (it's what I did and it worked) jdd -- http://dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I followed your suggestion, but selecting the old 'default' profile results in the same remark of being too old. --- Frans -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

very curious. Mine is also very old (I copy it from install to install since... lot of time) my FF is 68.1.0esr (64 bits) (15.1) jdd -- http://dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Mine, is same version and type. On TW FF is 69.x. Also, my .mozilla directory is equally very very old and has served me well throughout all the different versions of FF. Since 15.1 uses ancient libraries, I presume that the TW FF can't be used too. Meaning, stuck to only using TW or using the new default-esr profile and maintainig thus two profiles, add-ons, extensions etc. --- Frans. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Firefox regular and Firefox ESR should work fine on TW and 15.1 If a profile was once used with a newer version it might refuse by default to be used from an older version. This can be bypassed via --allow-downgrade. Thnks, Wolfgang. That was the right answer. And indeed, I did used it only once, after which it was no longer needed. However, when using the same directory again under TW, it might change again - I shall see. --- Frans. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I feel your pain. I just updated 15 and 15.1 and was horrified to find Firefox has jumped version from 60.8esr to 68 -- there are definite incompatibilities with profiles. Bad Juju. It's gotten to the point, it may be worth just installing FF and TB from the mozilla.org ftp page so that updates don't roll in major version change surprises mid-release (which used to be a No No) -- David C. What for? To run into the same issues end of October when there is no newer 60esr anymore? I do not see real unexpected blocking or critical issues in 68esr compared to 60esr. Probably the issue is the *unexpected*? Maybe we need to do a better job in informing people that such an update will happen soon so they can research what it means? Would it help?
